A Shell in Medway, Chatham, has donated £500 to Medway Pride CIC through Nisa’s Pride Pot.

Medway Pride CIC is a volunteer-led local charity that organises an annual Medway Pride festival.

The donation was made through Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally (MADL) Pride Pot, launched in 2021.

The MADL Pride Pot allows retailers to apply for up to £500 funding to support a charity of their choice. Retailers have until June 2024 to use the funding pot donations.

Medway Pride’s mission is to promote equality and diversity in Medway, and to create a ‘more welcoming environment’ for LGBTQ+ people.

The Medway Pride festival takes place annually, with the next event taking place on 23 September 2023.

“We at Shell Medway are proud to support Pride in all capacities,” said Shell Medway manager Stephen Pocknall. “We believe that everyone should be able to be themselves and celebrate their identity, and we are committed to creating a more inclusive and welcoming community.”

Kate Carroll, head of charity at Nisa, added: “I’m delighted Shell Medway are one of the first retailers to access this funding for their community in Kent.”
