NFRN welcomes pro rata terms for newsagents

Newsagent profits per copy will rise to 14.5p on weekday editions and 20.3p on Saturday editions

Archant to cease in-house printing

The decision by GNM and News UK to incorporate pro rata terms for newsagents as part of the recently announced pricing hikes for news titles has been welcomed by the NFRN.

The Guardian’s daily editions will cost £2.50 starting on June 5, while the Saturday Guardian and Sunday Observer will cost £3.50.

Starting on June 5, the price of The Sun will increase from 60p to 65p for Monday to Friday editions, and from 85p to 95p for Saturday editions.

Survey by BRC supports NFRN’s retail crime concerns

As a result of the new prices, retail margins will rise as well: Monday to Friday Guardian 55p; Saturday Guardian 77p and Sunday Observer 85.7p.

Newsagent profits per copy will rise to 14.5p on weekday editions and 20.3p on Saturday editions.

National president of NFRN, Stuart Reddish said “This is great news. When publishers put the prices of their titles up, there is always a danger that retailers will suffer because of reduced profits.

“But it is pleasing to see that GNM and News UK recognise the efforts of independent retailers to keep the news trade going during what has been an unprecedented and extremely difficult year for our industry” He continued.
