Thin bagels promise fat profit margins for Kingsmill

Kingsmill is hoping to fatten up bread sales with a thinner bagel that targets health-conscious consumers.

Kingsmill Bagel Thins are significantly thinner than a regular bagel, and contain only 122 calories. They are available in a six-pack, RRP £1.39, and are expected to help retailers increase incremental sales.

Martin Garlick, category director at Kingsmill owner Allied Bakeries, urges c-stores to ensure sandwich alternatives, such as bagels, form part of their bakery offering to provide shoppers with more choice and attract new customers to the category.

“The US bagel thins market is already well established and currently worth 10% of the US bagel market in volume,” he said. “We believe there is a similar opportunity in the UK, which will help retailers drive growth in the bakery category.”
