Comics remain a huge revenue driver despite print media’s digital-driven decline, and Spider-Man is one of their most bankable stars. The web-slinger’s pop-culture clout guarantees that any publication featuring him will be a premium product, and the latest in the franchise is a 160-page bookazine collating the seven volumes of Miles Morales: The Ultimate Spider-Man.
The title covers the early days of a new Spider-Man after Peter Parker’s death at the hands of the Green Goblin and is a perfect starting point for prospective comic fans, so promote it in your store to recruit new readers.

How do you display it?
It is our single biggest-selling magazine, and we display it alongside other TV listings on the shelf.
We’re a week away from the last month of the year – the final stretch for monthly titles. Publishers are throwing everything but the kitchen sink at newsagents to capitalise on the end of the year, and this week is no different as motoring and transport magazines take the lead.
Volksworld, Performance Mini, Performance VW, Vintage Roadscene, Old Glory, Classic & Vintage Commercial Vehicle, Classic Jaguar and Classic Plant & Machinery all have issues coming out this week, flooding the market with options to reach even the most niche of audiences.
It’s no surprise that publishers are so invested in this genre, given motoring and transport magazines generated £37.4m through 9.1 million sold copies between September 2017 and August 2018. The end of the year represents the final chance for retailers to generate extra revenue, and those offers are all supplemented with special issues and free 2019 calendars.
Due to the ubiquity of cars and their general appeal to huge swaths of the population, newsagents should capitalise on the December issues and their added-value additions to make the most out of the festive period.
Opportunity: car magazines
Retailers would do well to promote motoring and transport magazines in December to capitalise on the calendars, bumper packs and special Christmas issues associated with these titles in this period.
