More than 50 puzzle titles and specials have been launched in the past two years, according to market analysis.

Eight of the top 10 and more than half of the top 30 are Bauer titles, most of which are aligned to its Take a Break imprint.

The figures – Bauer’s independently-audited stats, which show sales through independent stores – confirm what Bauer and Frontline said is the publisher’s “decade-long dominance of the independent sector”.

Bauer also noted its success with mini-puzzles – its TaB Mini Puzzle publication is showing 17% year-on-year growth, and has risen every year since its 2017 launch.

Bauer has urged retailers to stock top-selling publications in each sub-category, and Bauer Puzzles managing director Spike Figgett praised indies for their support.
