Platinum magazine announced by DC Thomson

250,000 copies to be printed of first edition in attempt to capture over-55 'gap in the market'

Platinum magazine announced by DC Thomson

Platinum magazine is a new monthly premium women’s publication to be unveiled this month in the ‘biggest women’s magazine launch in over a decade’.

Publisher DC Thomson revealed the launch exclusively to Better Retailing. The title is aimed at women aged over 55, and comes with an exclusive competition for independent stores promising £100 in cash to five winners.

Iain McKenzie, head of circulation at DC Thomson, said Platinum had already received great feedback from retailers. “We have conducted lots of research and we feel there is a gap in the market for this title,” he said. “Print is a challenging sector, but we know this part of the market has the most committed and loyal readers.”

DC Thomson will print 250,000 copies of the first edition, which will be available at a sample price of £2, with subsequent editions at £4.50.

Regular contributors to Platinum magazine will include Dr Dawn Harper, stylist Gail Rolfe, and technology journalist Maggie Philbin.

McKenzie added: “We’ve met many independent retailers and received an overwhelmingly positive response. We want to support the independent sector and are providing free PoS packs.

“We are also running an exclusive competition just for independents with a chance for five people to win £100 in cash.”
