Nisa own-label milk price hike

The increase was blamed on Co-op’s contractual relationship with dairy farmers to pay a fair market price

Nisa has increased the wholesale prices of own-label milk to continue paying a “fair market price” to its suppliers.

In a message sent to retailers, and seen by Better Retailing, Nisa said: “We remain the cheapest on one-pint, two-pint and four-pint [milk products] compared with our direct competitors.

“The cost price increase is based on Co-op’s contractual stance with the Co-op Dairy Group farmers to pay a fair market price following a commodity price increase.

“The price we pay for their milk provides stability and allows them to invest for the future in technology, animal welfare and the overall infrastructure.”

One affected retailer told Better Retailing: “I buy most of my milk outside of Nisa because there have been price increases, but that’s just part of the market.”
