An agreement between Morrisons and Motor Fuel Group (MFG) will see the supermarket chain offload its petrol forecourts business for £2.5bn.

The sale is expected to be closed in early February, Sky News reported, and is also predicted to include 500 freehold plots of land at the supermarket’s sites.

MFG currently owns more than 900 stations, while Morrisons has approximately 335, totalling 1,200 forecourts.

MFG is majority-owned by Clayton Dubilier & Rice (CD&R), which acquired Morrisons in 2021.  The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) then announced an investigation of the acquisition which resulted in 87 sites being earmarked for sale.
