Selected Payzone retailers across South East Wales will be able to sell Transport for Wales (TfW) rail tickets in-store.
From Monday 24 January 2022, TfW customers within the South Wales Metrol are will be able to purchase selected rail tickets for local journeys in a number of convenience stores.
The pilot will involve stores in 90 different locations and its main objective is to make it easier and more convenient for customers to purchase tickets and also give them the option to purchase using cash, if their local station is unstaffed or has a card-only self-service machine.

TfW recently rolled out card-only self service Ticket Vending Machines, the new contract with Payzone will allow customers to pay for their rail tickets with cash at participating stores.
Customers will be able to purchase tickets with their preferred method of payment. This will ensure customers, who don’t have a credit or debit card, or prefer to pay by cash, can still purchase tickets before they travel.
This new contract is expected to drive additional footfall and increase overall basket spend, as well as expand range of services retailers can offer customers.

David O’Leary, Transport for Wales commercial & customer experience director stated how positive this partnership will be, “This is an exciting pilot that gives customers additional choices about how and where their purchase their rail tickets. This is the very first time in the UK that rail customers will be able to buy their tickets in their local convenience store and it also gives customers the added choice of purchasing with cash, especially if their local station does not have a ticket office or only has a self-service machine that accepts cards only.”
