Mango is a top five energy drink flavour

Carabao is set to launch a new non-HFSS Carabao Mango Burst variety.

Available from mid-May, the new flavour comes as research among energy drinkers by YouGov found that mango is one of the top five preferred flavours.

Additionally, 90% of respondents to a blind taste test said they liked the taste of the drink.

The supplier has removed aspartame from the new flavour, as well as substituted synthetic colours and flavours for natural alternatives, a move it will roll out across its entire range.

Mango Burst has 49 calories per can and a lower sugar formula which Carabao says makes it non-HFSS. It is available in a single 330ml can or as part of a 12-pack.

John Luck, chief marketing officer at Carabao UK&I, said: “With research revealing that mango appeals to both frequent and infrequent energy drinkers, we knew we wanted to create a mango drink to rival the existing market offering with a tropical twist unique to Carabao.

“With the further reduction of sugar and removal of aspartame as well as using natural flavours and ingredients, Carabao Mango Burst is the first step on a wider journey for the brand to offer customers even healthier energy drinks. We’re excited to launch the new flavour just in time for the summer months and look forward to seeing it contribute to our ambition to grow the brand further within the UK energy drinks market.”
