Why Unilever is spreading the word

Unilever is buttering up the spreads category through two brand extensions for Flora and Bertolli.

Gold from Flora is a blended spread with butter, and is 40% lower in saturated fat than block butter. Meanwhile, Bertolli with Butter is made with Mediterranean olive oil and butter, and contains around 45% less saturated fat than block butter. 

Both come in 400g tubs, RRP £2.49, and 225g tubs, RRP £1.49. Gold from Flora will also benefit from a £10m marketing campaign.

Patty Essick, brand building director for spreads at Unilever, said: “The launches have already got off to a great start in other European countries, and we’re confident we can replicate that success in the UK.”
