Phishing calls warning for symbol group retailers

Retailers advised to contact their bank or Worldpay if they believe they have been targeted

Phishing calls warning for symbol group retailers

Symbol group retailers were warned to be vigilant after reports of phishing calls last week, from fraudsters pretending to be from their wholesaler or third-party delivery provider.

A message from Nisa sent to its retailers claimed that it has been contacted by stores claiming that callers are pretending to be DHL or Nisa employees. The symbol group said that the scammers may already have the names of retailers.

The fraudsters persuade stores to carry out transactions such as vouchers or credits on PayPoint, or other payments terminals.

Nisa’s retail operations team advised: “If you believe you have been targeted, contact your bank and Worldpay immediately.”

Other variants of the scam include callers pretending to be from HMRC or other government and council departments.
