Morrisons generic blames McColl’s

Morrisons is recruiting a buying manager to help it develop and increase its market share in the wholesale sector.

The role advertised by the multiple this month suggests it is making a concerted effort to develop its wholesale service to independent retailers by sourcing more convenience-specific lines.

The candidate will develop “customer and supplier relationships”, advise on the development of ranges and provide “product expertise”.

They will also be responsible for delivering a business plan, while “negotiating with suppliers to optimise trade-plan activation and value”.

The supermarket begun offering wholesale terms to independent retailers early this year, but in June it reversed a decision to close some wholesale accounts in response to the driver shortage.
