NewstrAid reveals 185th anniversary activity

Industry charity NewstrAid has announced its first event to be part of its 185th anniversary celebrations

NewstrAid has revealed that its annual race day at Lingfield Park will form part of its 185th anniversary activity during 2024.

NewstrAid CEO Neil Jagger said: “Although we host a race day each year to help raise money and awareness for the charity, as this is our 185th anniversary year, we are planning to make the event the best yet and have already secured table bookings and donations from many newstrade businesses keen to support us during our special birthday year.”

The afternoon of horse racing will take place on Thursday 23 May and includes a three-course lunch, a serviced bar throughout and free parking for guests.

This fundraising event is one of several activities planned to mark the 185th anniversary of the charity which was originally founded in 1839 to support street newspaper vendors in Victorian London.

Jagger added: “Although NewstrAid has adapted over the years to support an ever-changing industry, the root of our work remains the same: to provide assistance to anyone from the trade facing hardship.  We hope very much that as many people as possible from the trade can join us for events like our horse racing day and help us to celebrate this impressive achievement.”

Other anniversary events planned by the charity include a UK wide scavenger hunt and an anniversary raffle.

Full details will be announced during the year via social media, NewstrAid newsletters and the NewstrAid website.

Businesses or individuals interested in taking part should contact mail@newstraid.org.uk for more information.
