David Lomas, of Lomas News, Bury, Lancashire, had traditionally been with Menzies, after being told that was his wholesaler when the dividing lines were drawn up between the two.
After an issue over a magazine delivery escalated, however, he decided to investigate further, and found out he could swap wholesalers. “We’re on the cusp, between the two,” Lomas told Better Retailing. “We were never told we could choose between them.”
After requesting a change, he has moved to Smiths News, and is delighted with the results. “We managed to move, and it has been great,” he said.
He added that retailers should investigate as to whether their wholesaler options were greater than they might have thought.
