Have you seen an increase in newspaper sales since the start of the Rugby World Cup and European Championships?

If the results of this week’s poll are anything to go by, it isn’t just the UK teams that will come away from the Rugby World Cup empty handed.

Just 7% of voters in this week’s poll said the events have helped increase newspaper sales so far.

But publishers in Wales tell a different story. Sales of the Wales on Sunday all but doubled the day after the Welsh team beat England at Twickenham, while the Western Mail reported a sales increase of around 5% during the tournament last week.

This result prompted Trinity Mirror newspaper sales director Alan Tyldesley to urge retailers to strike while the iron is hot and offer HND to retain any sales boost that the event is creating.

Even if the rugby is not benefiting your newspaper sales, offering HND can undoubtedly create loyalty and secure regular custom. And where publishers are actively supporting retailers to set up and promote HND, it’s worth working with them on this.

Don’t forget to vote in this week’s poll on tobacco sales under the display ban.
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.
