Morrisons has deepened its relationship with online retailer Amazon after the supermarket reported its first quarterly sales decline since 2016.

The supermarket’s interim results revealed it has signed a deal with Amazon over several years “extending relationship in time and scope”.

The supermarket currently has a same-day supply deal with Amazon covering Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham and parts of London.

A further roll-out of ultra-fast Morrisons Amazon delivery is now expected across more cities in the UK.

According to chief executive David Potts, sales and profit progress for the supermarket remained “robust” despite like-for-like sales in the three months to August 4 falling by 1.9%. Pre-tax profits, however, were up 48.5% to £202m.
