JTI has announced the launch of 10-pack Sterling Dual Capsule Leaf Wrapped menthol cigarillos designed to allow customers to continue smoking a menthol tobacco product ahead and after the menthol ban in May.
Its King Size Cigarillos contain a Virginia blend tobacco and, unlike cigarettes, are wrapped in tobacco leaf. Available with an RRP of £4.50, the menthol cigarillos have a mentholated capsule in the filter, which consumers can click for a peppermint flavour.
Due to its status as a cigar product, the new Sterling Dual Capsule Leaf Wrapped line is not affected by either the upcoming menthol or plain packaging requirements.
Preparing for the menthol ban with Imperial Tobacco
Ross Hennessy, JTI head of sales, said: “We expect that Sterling Dual Capsule Leaf Wrapped cigarillos will become a popular choice for adult smokers and appreciated by those looking for value-for-money tobacco options.’
Commenting on the launch, retailer Arjan Mehr, of Londis in Bracknell, said: “Once the menthol ban comes in there’s going to be a huge gap in my gantry. Menthol products are one of my most popular products.
“Although it’s difficult to tell at this early stage how popular it will be, the price might help and it sounds like a very unique product. Sterling is also quite a popular brand, but the proof will be when I start selling it.”
