Independent retailer to launch on-demand app for finding delivery drivers

Drivrr is expected to launch by mid-March

An independent retailer is launching a service to help fellow store owners find drivers for their home delivery services on demand.

Drivrr is expected to launch by the middle of March. Users will be able find nearby drivers through an app.

Retailers are required to set the hourly rate with the driver themselves, while also paying a daily £1 fee to use the service. Location and the required duration of work can also be set by the store owner. Drivers will also have their own profile, which will display vehicle type and reviews from other retailers. Store owners can also track the drivers in real-time and chat with them.

Drivrr has no affiliation to any home delivery provider, meaning retailers can use it regardless of whether they are with Deliveroo, UberEats, Snappy Shopper or any other firm.

The founder, who asked not to be named, Better Retailing the idea for Drivrr came out of issues he had experienced himself with driver absences. They said: “I was doing really well with my home delivery service, but all of a sudden I had no drivers because staff were on holiday or were off for other reasons.

Setting up a home delivery service

“I was thinking ‘I wish there was a facility where I can just request a driver on demand.’ Sometimes it’s not affordable to hire a full or part time driver, either. We will be focusing on other sectors as well, but convenience is the main industry we’ll focus on.

“A lot of retailers I speak to when I visit a cash and carry say it’s quite expensive to hire a delivery driver on a longer-term basis.”

The service has received 300 pre-registrations from drivers, with interest coming from cities such as London, Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle.

The retailer added the firm is working on direct integration with third-party delivery firms, meaning driver requests will be automatically submitted once an order comes through.
