Google’s grocery retail head, Harry Walker, has stressed the importance for retailers to have a “digital shop front”.

Speaking at the ACS Summit 2019 in Birmingham last week, he said: “You need to be where consumers are in the market for your products and services, and one of the first places that they look is on Google.

“For every physical location you have, you have the ability to give yourself a digital shop front.”

He went on to explain that the use of the search ‘open now’ has increased by 145% year on year.

Bestway’s chief retail officer, Andy Cresswell, added: “Convenience is now more than just a local shop. We need to be clear about the consumers we are targeting and what their needs are.”
