Owen Church, who was national president of the NFRN between 1995 and 1996, died on Sunday morning at the age of 78.

Church was the local postmaster in Hemsby, near Great Yarmouth in Norfolk, for more than 55 years.

Joining in 1964, Church was involved in the NFRN at branch, district and national levels, and was a member of the National Council for more than 50 years.

As a past chairman of both the Ratcliffe Benevolent Fund Committee and the Carl Bridgewater Memorial Fund Committee, his contribution to the NFRN’s charity work was significant, as was the work he did for news deliverers over many years.

In recognition of his dedication to the NFRN, in 2019 Church was named the longest-serving active member of the year at the NFRN’s centenary awards, together with fellow Norfolk retailer Ralph Childs.
