Co-op’s new vegan Gro range provided to symbols

More multiples take advantage of the vegan trend

Up to 4,000 Nisa and Costcutter retailers were given access to 35 vegan products from the Co-op’s new Gro range this month. The multiple claimed the launch was “the biggest rollout of vegan products by a supermarket”.

The Gro range will focus on meat-free versions of food-to-go products such as chilli con carne, steak bake, pizza and sticky toffee pudding. The multiple’s entire beer and cider range is also set to become completely vegan this year.

Co-op own label sales growing for Nisa stores

Co-op Food CEO Jo Whitfield said: “We have to provide fantastic products and services with strong ethics and a purposeful focus on convenience. Our new vegan range taps into the latest consumer trends.”

Neil Turton, managing director of wholesale buying group Sugro, added: “Our wholesale members focus predominantly on impulse products such as soft drinks and confectionery.

“Some of them have started making an effort to offer vegan alternatives, such as ranging products with no gelatine.

“What Co-op is doing is a step in the right direction and key for retailers stocking them will be offering them at an affordable price.”

Co-op’s move coincides with Aldi’s launch of 10 vegan products.
