Tropical Sun Foods brand manager Jag Singh says that putting a little extra effort into presenting exotic produce is vital if retailers are going to maximise the dividends.

“It is essential that retailers really bring their Caribbean range to life – it lends itself so naturally to carnival, fun and get-togethers,” he says. “A fantastic way to do this is product sampling. There is a significant increase in likelihood-to-purchase once a consumer has tried a product.”

He advises retailers to create “themed events such as a Caribbean carnival” as a way to get regular customers to try the bestsellers in this sector.

“Simple things like store signage, serving bite-sized foods on a plate and drink samples, encourages engagement and discussion amongst customers.”
