Today’s signs up with shopper promo app bigDL

Today’s Group symbol members will receive cutting-edge technology this year to drive more shoppers into their stores and increase their sales.

The buying group has signed up to bigDL (which stands for Big Deals Local), an app that flags up retail promotions in stores local to consumers. Shoppers can find out which products they can get money off and what offers are available at their local store.

Today’s will roll out iBeacon devices to all of its symbol group stores from April 18, allowing the app to send out push notifications about promotions to shoppers within a 25metre radius of a Today’s store.

TV screens showing deals relevant to individual stores will also be available later this year, as well as handheld devices that enable customers to redeem coupons straight from their mobile phones.

“We aim to bring a cost-effective and easy-to-use digital solution to convenience,” said Mark Biscoe, commercial director at Instant Access Technologies, the firm behind bigDL.

John Kinney, Today’s Group retail director, said: “Promotional leaflets are really important, but there’s a whole customer demographic that doesn’t respond to leaflets. This will put our retailers’ offers straight into the hands of consumers, driving sales and footfall.”

The company has also signed up to an industry-wide loyalty scheme, which rewards retailers with points every time a rep visits their store and finds that they are compliant with ranging and display of specific lines.
