Labour conference 2021: leader Sir Keir Starmer outlines future plans

The Labour leader is set to outline the party's future plans in a speech at 12pm today

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer is set to outline the party’s future plans in a speech in Brighton at 12pm today.

This will be Starmer’s first in-person speech to the Labour party with the leader promising to get Labour “back in business”.

Predictions for the speech are that Starmer will call for the nationalisation of energy companies and push towards a £15 minimum wage.

Shadow councellor Rachel Reeves confirmed in a speech on Monday a future Labour government would scrap business rates in a potential shakeup being described as “the biggest overhaul of business taxation in a generation”.

A Labour source has said that Starmer’s noon speech will be “noticeably different from what you’ve heard from Labour in recent years.

This speech will be a demonstration of the way the Labour Party has changed.”
