The first £5 game to move to the new pack size will be the ‘Christmas Advent Calendar’ from 2 September, with the first £2 games being ‘Christmas Cash’ and ‘3 Ways to Win’, both from 30 September.

A Camelot spokesperson told Better Retailing the move will enable retailers “to keep their dispensers fully stocked for long enough to meet demand and maximise sales during peak periods”.

Highlighting the importance of the product in their game portfolio, they added: “Retailers earn 6% commission per scratchcard, which is 1% more than draw-based games.”

Retailer Anita Nye, from Premier Eldred Drive Stores in Orpington, Kent, said: “This will definitely help our packs last longer.”

When asked if the size increase would lead to a rise in thefts due to more prizes being available, a Camelot spokesperson said: “We advise that retailers only activate stock immediately before putting it in the dispenser and that any other stock is locked in a safe or security box, and not left in view, especially out of hours.”
