Nisa trial removes best-before dates to reduce food wastage

The packaging will replace the best-before date with a two-digit code informing retailers of the month and day

Nisa is trialling the removal of best-before dates on fresh Co-op lines to help reduce food wastage.

The trial applies to 20 salad lines, encouraging customers to assess whether the product is still consumable.

The packaging will replace the best-before date with a two-digit code informing retailers of the month and day.

Nisa said the trial will last until 14 November. It added: “We’re committed to reducing food waste, and climate action organisation WRAP has targeted the removal of best-before dates on fresh produce as a priority in supporting the reduction of food waste.”
