NewstrAid is calling for teams and individuals to take on Yorkshire’s 3 Peaks walking challenge to fundraise for those employed in the selling and distribution of newspapers and magazines, and experiencing hardship.

Organised by NewstrAid’s east midlands area committee, the event will take place on the weekend of 16 and 17 September in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

The walk encompasses a 24-mile (38.6km) round trip route with a 1585m (5200ft) ascent from the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent (694m), Whernside (736m) and Ingleborough (723m), forming part of the Pennine range that’s usually completed in under 12 hours.

Operations director, Tom Rodger, said: “So far we have had a fantastic response to this event and already have three teams from across the newspaper and magazine industry taking part and raising money for the charity.

“Anyone taking part in the walk will need to organise their own accommodation and travel but other than that, there is no cost to getting involved in the challenge, we just ask that each participant or team raises sponsorship for NewstrAid by setting up a Just Giving Page linked to the NewstrAid fundraising page.”

Teams are recommended to be a minimum of two people and a maximum of six.

Anyone interested in taking part should contact Darren Powell at dp210866@gmail.com, or Mike Walsh at mikewalsh179@sky.com.
