Wholesalers and symbol groups have invited employees affected by the collapse of home retailer Wilko to apply for roles.
Posting on social media, Bestway said it had a number of positions available across its retail and wholesale teams in stores, its head office and in the field. The firm said: “We’re disheartened to hear the news about Wilko this week and are thinking about all of the employees impacted by the sad news. Please, do get in touch if you’re searching for an opportunity.”
Similarly, Co-op and Nisa rallied with Bestway to support ex-Wilko employees. Nisa comms and marketing lead Kirsty Rushby said: “Sharing for my network for anyone potentially impacted by the situation at Wilko.
“Some vacancies [that] Nisa Retail is recruiting for are based in Scunthorpe, but fairly hybrid-working policies.”
Roles were also being advertised by major supermarkets. Booker-owner Tesco added: “We were truly sorry to learn the news about Wilko. Our thoughts are with you and your families at what we’re sure is a really difficult time.
“Uncertainty about your career can be scary, so we just want to let you know that, when you’re ready, we’re here for you.”
Wilko announced it had entered administration this month, affecting 400 stores and leaving the future of 12,000 staff in doubt.
