Costcutter fears a no-deal Brexit

Costcutter has signed a statement warning that a ‘no-deal’ Brexit would disrupt the food supply chain.

Costcutter has signed a statement warning that a ‘no-deal’ Brexit would disrupt the food supply chain. The letter, by the British Retail Consortium, was also signed by M&S, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Morrisons, Co-op and Lidl.

A spokesperson for Costcutter said: “It was vital the voice of retailers and the impact of a no-deal Brexit was heard.”

The letter read: “Even if the UK government does not undertake checks on products at the border, there will still be a major disruption at Calais as the French government will enforce sanitary customs checks on exports from the EU. This will reduce the availability and shelf life of many products in our stores.”
