Stocking local dairy products supports farmers in your area, helps the environment – and can help make your business a destination for shoppers, too.

Demand for local and regional foods is growing every year, as 70% of shoppers in Britain now want to buy them, according to industry data.

“We offer our customers more than 30 local dairy lines such as cheeses, and all these products are growing,” says retailer Richard Williams from Williams, Somerset.

“Our commitment to locally-produced cheeses and other dairy products is central to our chilled offer and key to making our store stand out from the multiples.

“To support local dairy, we back up these products with specially designed PoS and weekly in-store tastings. We often get the local suppliers themselves to come in and run the sampling sessions,” he adds.

Spar Seasalter retailer Paul Hudson also stocks locally-produced cheese from specialist supplier C W Parker & Son, a line which is increasingly popular with shoppers.

“We always try to heavily back local dairy products, and run tasting events to show everyone in the area what we have on offer from the region.”
