IAA 2016 Overall Best Shop

The IAA 2016 Overall Winner is Amish Shingadia, Shingadia’s Londis Caterways & Post Office

This award recognises the shop that has improved the most in many areas of the business over the past year and the retailer that is proactive and working to a consistently high standard, giving their customers fantastic service.

Winner: Amish Shingadia, Shingadia’s Londis Caterways & Post Office

Amish stood out because he told his story so well, sharing details of how decisions have been made and the science behind his thinking in getting to those decisions across every discipline. The store is designed to provide the latest in food-to-go, fresh and chilled, grocery and services with weekly sales and profitability targets for all sections.

A category development table at the front of the store provides theatre and promotes new, local and impulse products. Amish has great processes including a list of backup suppliers which keeps availability levels above 95% and a daily rota of store maintenance and cleaning to keep the shop at its best.

He uses customer surveys and his EPoS systems to capture data which is analysed so he can replicate success. The store has Investors in People status and offers apprenticeships, has rigorous staff training, induction and development plans and high customer service expectations ensuring they regularly score over 90% on mystery shopper visits.

Amish took a rundown store turning over £5,000 a week, spoke to the community to find out what they wanted from their store and created it. He has quadrupled sales and this is still rising.
