Costcutter retailer celebrates £1m sales boost

Costcutter Farnworth, run by husband and wife team Baz and Dhara Jethwa, has increased turnover by 55% to £2.7m this year and created 14 new jobs.

The huge sales boost in the result of a £400,000 refit last year, using the new premium Costcutter fascia. The Jethwas doubled the store size, added an in-store bakery, and butchers, sourced fresh local foods and introduced a Costa Coffee refreshment area.

“It was a major investment for us, but we’re delighted that it more than paid for itself in the first year and we’re now planning a similar redevelopment programme at our second store in Bolton,” said Baz.

The Bolton business owner thanked his customers for the £1m sales boost by throwing an in-store party, complete with face painting, bouncy castle and food tasting.

As well as a live band:

As well as having a strong fresh and chilled department, Baz has ensured he caters for all customer needs by including bill payment solutions and a cash machine.

“We now meet all those demands and, with Costa Coffee and an in-store bakery, we are attracting a much higher food to go market,” said Baz.

He also praised Costcutter’s TV advertising campaign believing it to have contributed to the store doubling footfall and growing fresh produce sales by 250%.

“The new Independent product range is great value and is being received really well here and the national TV advertising campaign has been a major boost for us,” Baz added.
