Spar has opened its first Spar Express ‘pop-up’ to protect access to goods as a main Spar site in a village is redeveloped.
The temporary unit for Spar Haworth in West Yorkshire was created in partnership with Rapid Retail, a group that has worked with Costcutter on similar concepts. A one-in-one-out policy is in use to keep the one-till store Covid-safe.
As the only shop in the village, the mobile shop’s range of fresh and ambient ‘everyday essentials’ was described as “imperative” by Spar UK format proposition manager Ross Stoddart.
Spar Express will remain in place until the day before the main store’s reopening on 20 May. Spar said it was also “looking to consider” using pop-up shops to support developments at independent and company-owned stores.
