Spar retailers could be getting access to new local lines following the announcement that James Hall & Co. is to host a virtual ‘Meet the Buyer’ session on 18 May, where suppliers will be invited to pitch their products to the wholesaler’s trading team.
The event will give each supplier, who are members of the North & Western Lancashire (NWL) Chamber of Commerce, 15 minutes to pitch their products which could then lead to them being available to more than 600 Spar retailers across the north of England. .
Currently, the NWL Chamber of Commerce has 1,600 members.
Andrew Barnes, trading director at James Hall & Co., said: “If the last 12 months has taught us anything, it’s the importance of local family businesses supporting one another.
“Across our group of companies, we’ve always tried to work with local suppliers, however big or small; but it’s now more vital than ever. It puts money back into local communities, helps reduce food miles in the supply chain, minimises environmental impact and helps develop sustainable, long-term partnerships.
“Hopefully we’ll find a few new local gems to stock in our stores.”
Babs Murphy, NWL Chamber of Commerce chief executive, added: “The pandemic has had a considerable impact on many different types of business across Lancashire. The Chamber’s intentions for 2021 are to support our members, ensure their recovery is strong and assist them with future-proofing their business as much as possible.
“One of our key priorities is to further create an appetite for local companies to support each other by buying locally, and we are grateful to James Hall & Co. for working with the Chamber to support this aim and promote our shared values.”
