The wholesaler reported a 9.8% gross profit increase due in part to the turnover performance of their petrol stations

Costco is planning to open petrol filling stations at the majority of its cash and carry sites throughout the UK.

In the wholesaler’s UK trading results for the year ending 1 September 2019, Costco said the opening of three petrol stations in Leicester, Southampton and Stevenage had increased footfall at depots in those areas.

“There are plans to open petrol stations at a number of other locations in the coming months, ultimately to have a petrol filling station at the majority of our locations over the medium to longer term,” Costco added.

During the trading period, turnover rose annually by 2.9% from £2.5bn to £2.6bn. Gross profit in the same period grew by 9.8% from £70m to £77m, driven partly by the performance from Costco’s petrol stations and a shift to high-margin products.
