MPs call for temporary suspension of Sunday trading hours

The call has been apposed by convenience industry trade organisations

Sunday trading

MPs have called for a temporary suspension of Sunday trading hours to help multiple retailers provide more essential products and prevent overcrowding during the coronavirus epidemic.

The campaign to get supermarkets to open as long as convenience stores in England is being led by MPs Nus Ghani and Peter Kelly.

Despite claiming the law makes it “harder for shops to manage the number of people entering their premises”, Tesco and other supermarkets refused to back the move, which is opposed by convenience trade groups including the NFRN and ACS.

Stores can download the ACS’ template letter to send to politicians by clicking here. Retailers can find out the name and address of their local MP by clicking here.
