Alpesh is responsible across the board, from food safety to tobacco legislation. He traces fresh food from its origin, monitoring its temperature throughout the journey to the shop, as well as when it arrives in-store.

When it comes to shoplifting, Alpesh removed some shelving to make vulnerable areas more visible from the till. He also works with his local PCOs to reduce shoplifting and anti-social behaviour.

Crucially, Alpesh is very vigilant about legislation and training, ensuring all staff do online tests every six months to keep up-to-date. He also introduced a weekly staff bulletin and posters around the shop to ensure they were ready for EUTPD II.

Finalists:

·       Jack Matthews, Bradley’s Supermarkets, Loughborough

·       Sue Nithyanandan, Costcutter Epsom, Epsom

·       Alpesh Shingadia, Shingadia’s Londis Southwater & Post Office, Horsham

·       Joe Williams, The Village Shop & Post Office (Spar), Hook Norton
