Technology to improve the security of convenience stores was a major focus at the EuroShop conference 2020 in Germany.

The annual trade show took place in Dusseldorf last week.

NFRN: Government must make shop security a priority

Sid Sidhu, of St John’s Budgens in Kenilworth, Warwickshire, told betterRetailing: “There was a lot of technology, such as doors with cameras embedded into them.

“These were designed to recognise a customer and tailor radio advertising to them, but there were other uses such as recognising a thief and alerting the retailer.”

Simply Fresh creative director Davinder Jheeta added that EuroShop conference 2020 also had self-checkouts that scanned items by recognising the shape and weight on the conveyer belt.
