Amazon is continuing its move onto the high street by opening Amazon Go in Seattle, which allows shoppers to grab and go without checkout queues.

Shoppers can scan their smartphones when entering the 1,800sq ft store, pick up the items that they want, then leave without going to a till.

Sensors detect when the products are removed from shelves and the customer’s credit card is charged.

Amazon has registered a British trademark for the concept in the UK but has not confirmed any plans to roll it out beyond the United States.

The company is already invested in the British grocery market with a wholesale deal with Morrisons.
