Scottish power ends costly auto-rollover contracts

Scottish Power is ending ‘auto-rollover’ contracts and has announced its intention to continue to ensure that its small business customers receive contract renewals 60 days prior to their contract expiring

The move will, says the company “provide customers with greater choice and control over their energy supply”.

Scottish Power has joined E.On, which committed last week to ending the practice, and British Gas, which made the pledge earlier in the year.

The ACS called on Ofgem to tackle the issue back in July.

Retail Express has campaigned for an end to rollover contracts – and back in November we reported on the first rumblings by Ofgem that energy companies would be forced to adopt fairer strategies.

Scottish Power will stop offering rollover contracts to new small business customers from April 2014 and in addition will reduce the period for back billing of business customers to 12 months from January.
