More than 580 retailers in the Republic of Ireland will have their PayPoint terminals switched off in October as the company exits the Irish market.

Irish retailers received letters in May and July notifying them of the exit, according to the Irish Times. PayPoint confirmed the exit as part of a plan to focus on its business in the UK and Romania. A PayPoint spokesperson added: “Until then, it is very much business as usual and retailers and clients have been instructed to serve customers as normal.”

More than € 11b goes through the tills of Irish PayPoint retailers every year via 570 million PayPoint transactions. Retailers in Northern Ireland are unaffected.
