The Sun is rolling out a campaign to boost awareness of its Sun Savers scheme to 12,000 retailers nationwide after a successful trial in Scotland.

The scheme will see new PoS with the tagline ‘Earn Cash, Get Treats, Win Prizes’.

Primer cards will be given to retailers and staff, enabling them to educate customers about the scheme and its benefits.

Further support will come from News UK’s field team – the Scottish trial saw the team visiting more than 1,200 stores. The company estimates that the cash reward part of the scheme, which gives £5 to customers who purchase 28 papers, has helped drive additional sales of more than £4.5m over the past year.

News UK head of retail marketing Chris Hughes said: “Our research shows that a Sun print reader who regularly enters Sun Savers codes spends an average of £30 a week in convenience stores. That’s £8 per week more than other newspaper shoppers.”
