Unitas urges stores to take action over HFSS promo ban

Retailers may share their views on the government's proposals until 22 February

Wholesale group Unitas has called on stores to “take action” to protect their sales from the government’s planned HFSS promotions ban.

The group, which includes major wholesalers such as Dhamecha, Blakemore and Parfetts, wrote to its retailer customers last week. It warned the government’s proposals would ban symbol stores over 2,000sq ft from using multi-buy promotions and restrict sales locations on products high in fat, salt and sugar.

Stores have until 22 February to share their views on the proposal through the government consultation. The new law is scheduled to be implemented in April 2022.

New research commissioned by the Food and Drink Federation found one in four shoppers were concerned about affording their shopping if promotions were removed.
