When I spent a day working in Dee Sedani’s store for this week’s work experience feature, one of the things that impressed me most was how quickly he had seized the opportunity to join One Stop when he realised it could help him achieve his business goals.
He wanted a more efficient business model, higher in-store standards and for his staff to be more independent, he said, so he chose to change the way he worked, got in early, and hasn’t looked back.
Equally impressive was how quick he was to speak up and challenge the way One Stop works with its franchise owners when he saw the need to do so. He persuaded them that smaller stores can struggle with bigger twice-weekly deliveries and now receives three drops a week instead, for example.
The importance of acting on opportunities as they arise is a theme that runs throughout this week’s issue.

In our cigars feature, we look at how and why you should make the most of the last Christmas sales season before the display ban.
And in his column, Neville Rhodes urges the newstrade to stem falling sales by collaborating to bring about early deliveries, now.
