Londis is recommending that new and refitted stores do not have visible tobacco gantries as part of a plan to 'future proof' the symbol group's estate. 

Londis boss Martin Swadling outlined his plans for the Booker-owned symbol group today (29 June) at Pete Bhadal's Londis store in Leeds.

Day-part merchandising, emerging categories such as free-from and craft spirits and a renewed focus on value are also part of the group's updated strategy.

Martin Swadling said: "The world is changing – all the traditional footfall drivers are in decline. The challenge is how do we help retailers to adapt stores' offers so they can future-proof their businesses."

Among the updated revealed were:

– Londis no longer actively recommends a visible tobacco gantry display to new retailers or those undergoing refits.

– Newly-designed PoS has been designed to help emphasise the group's best deals.

– All stores are now recommended to stock a far wide range of protein, free-from and vegetarian/vegan produce.

– Londis has introduced a new umbrella brand, The Good Taste Food Co., which stores can use to bring together their food to go offers.

– Displays on wheels will help Londis stores embrace day part merchandising. 

– A new guide has been published to showcase the 1,300-strong range of fresh products.
