Retailers can now stock McCoy’s Hot Mexican Chilli and Popchips BBQ and Sour Cream & Onion in £1 price-marked packs (PMP), with Penn State Sour Cream & Chive available in October.

The new £1 PMP formats “aim to help retailers drive impulse purchases and excite shoppers”, according to owner KP Snacks.

Butterkist ‘Ultimate Movie Night’ Now TV promotion launched

The supplier said the launch comes following an increase in savoury snacking, with crisps, snacks and nuts showing up in 70% more convenience baskets during lockdown.

McCoy’s Hot Mexican Chilli is designed to help retailers capitalise on flavour trends as spicy flavours grow by 7.1%. The supplier claims spicy flavours are the most popular within PMPs.

10 ways to grow your crisps and snacks

Popchips BBQ and Sour Cream & Onion and Penn State aim to meet growing health trends, with 39% of shoppers look for a healthy product when snacking.

Matt Collins, trading director at KP Snacks, said: “Forty-two per cent of shoppers buy crisps and snacks on impulse, and PMPs are a huge driving force behind this, with £1 PMP ranges growing ahead of the market by 15%.

“With the current circumstances, consumers are likely to be more price conscious, so we feel it is important to offer products at an affordable price point and help retailers retain the baskets they’ve gained over lockdown.”
