"Coffee is Latin for margin", said Roger Whiteside, CEO of Greggs, as he gave the keynote presentation at the Arena Events hospitality industry gathering in London this week.

The comment was allied to a more pertinent point about how Mr Whiteside has revitalised the fortunes of the high-street food chain by providing a health- and quality-focused food-to-go offer in line with consumers’ changing tastes.

Mr Whiteside also revealed that he wants to add another 200 stores to Greggs’ current estate of 1,800.
