Immediate Media to publish Skylanders Universe Magazine
Immediate is set to build on the momentum of Activision’s top selling video game franchise with the launch of Skylanders Universe Magazine. Launching on 29 October, the magazine will have a print run of 85,000 and will retail at £2.99. The new title will be supported at retail level with significant PoS, as well as featuring in a major marketing campaign.
Government considers new tax on tobacco
Ministers have suggested a proposal to introduce a minimum excise tax (MET) on tobacco products, which could lead to minimum pricing on cigarettes. The coalition government is currently consulting on ways to maximise tax revenue from tobacco after a recent market shift towards value lines.
Thorntons to enter chocolate block market
Premium chocolate maker Thorntons is to launch its first ever chocolate blocks next month. Aimed at the convenience sector, the 100g tablet bars will be available in Fabulous Fudge and Special Toffee flavours and will retail at £1.59. The lines will be supported with a social media campaign under the tagline “Too good to share?”
Menzies further consolidates magazine packing
Menzies plans to shift magazine packing from its Ipswich, Norwich and Chelmsford branches to Maidstone. Maidstone already packs magazines for 6,000 retailers across the south east and the move would see them take on a further 670 customers. The NFRN has said it will meet with Menzies to discuss the change.
Independents benefit from Walkers online offer
Retailers signed up to Walkers’ Count for More website have been given the chance to receive a new snack product well before it is made available to wholesalers. The manufacturer’s new line of Smiths Cheese Balls is due to launch 22 September but have been available to eligible retailers for the last few weeks.
