Mondelez has announced it will be launching Cadbury Plant Bar, a plant-based alternative to Cadbury Dairy Milk, in November.
The bar, which has been developed over two years at Mondelez’ Global Centre of Excellence for Chocolate Research and Development in Bournville, will be available at an RRP of £2.50 in Smooth Chocolate and Smooth Chocolate with Salted Caramel flavours, both of which are made with almond paste instead of milk.
According to Mondelez, almond paste provides a similar taste and texture to milk ingredients with a hint of nuttiness, and makes the bar suitable for vegans.
The launch marks the second major vegan chocolate bar launch of 2021, following the KitKat V from Nestlé Confectionery.
The Plant Bar’s packaging will be 100% plant-based, made from bio-sourced plastics from renewable sources certified by the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification.
Louise Stigant, UK managing director for Mondelez, says the bar’s launch comes amid rising preference for vegan options.
“With 500,000 participants in this year’s Veganuary – double the number of participants from the year before, the increasing public appetite for varied snacking options and plant-based alternatives has never been more apparent,” she said.
“At Mondelēz, evolving consumer demands have long informed our ambition to provide a wide range of products that work for everyone and the new Cadbury Plant Bar range is the latest stop on this journey.”
